54-40 & BIF NAKED HEADLINE CANADA DAY 2009!
The City of Surrey and Coast Capital Savings are proud to present Surrey Canada Day 2009. This celebration has grown to become the largest Canada Day event in Western Canada with attendance last year of over 100,000 people and garnering legendary status as one of the largest outdoor shows ever staged in BC.
This year’s main stage presented by Chevron boasts another stellar Canadian line up featuring multi-platinum alt-rock legends, 54-40 and Vancouver ‘s own rock royalty, Bif Naked for an amazing double bill, which will be followed by the Fruiticana Fireworks Spectacular
54-40 is one of the most important music groups to emerge from the Canadian cultural landscape. With more than two decades of performing and recording behind them, the band has an amazing catalogue of hit songs. Lead by chief songwriter, Neil Osborne, 54-40 has carved out a legacy of gold and platinum albums including 16 releases of original material. Every 54-40 concert is an extraordinary affair that bridges the gaps of generations through an amazing live music experience.
Bif Naked’s recent battle with cancer following 2004's hit record Superbeautifulmonster has left Bif feeling like she had something to prove when she started making her new record, The Promise. In some ways, the new album plays like it re-examines every facet of her previous work, from power ballads to troublegum punk to computerized beats and remixes. But her new songs are bigger, beefier, harder and more confrontational than anything Bif Naked has released before. Bif Naked’s appearance at Surrey Canada Day promises to be the comeback show of the year!
The entertainment line-up runs non-stop all day hip-hop faves Sweatshop Union, hit songstress Carlie Rae Jepsen, singer/songwriter Jeremy Fisher, newcomer Kuba Ohms, and many more. Special attractions include Shooting Star Amusement Rides featuring the Gravitron and the Zipper, plus a full range of family-oriented talent for the younger crowd, interactive games and bouncy castles for the kids. Seniors can look forward to an impressive gathering for the Strawberry Tea; Hosted by Mayor Dianne Watts and Council.
Surrey’s Canada Day will take place Wednesday July 1st at the Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre located 176 Street & 64th Avenue. The event is free to the public and gates open at 10 am with the fireworks show slated for 10 pm.

LOVERBOY, THE PAYOLA$ TO HEADLINE THIS YEAR’S 2008 CANADA DAY CELEBRATION IN SURREY
The City of Surrey and Coast Capital Savings are proud to present Surrey Canada Day 2008. This celebration has grown to become the largest Canada Day event in Western Canada with attendance in 2007 reaching 90,000 garnering near legendary status as one of the largest outdoor shows ever staged in BC.
Surrey’s Canada Day will take place Tuesday July 1st at the Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre, located at 176 Street & 64th Avenue. The concerts are free to the public, with gates opening at 11 am and the fireworks show slated for 11 pm.
This year’s main stage, presented by Chevron, boasts another stellar line up featuring multi-platinum rock legends, Loverboy and Vancouver’s ground-breaking 80’s heroes The Payola$ for a classic rock double bill. The concert will be followed by the Fruiticana Fireworks Spectacular, which will be simulcast on Classic Rock 101.
Loverboy was introduced to the world in 1980 with their self-titled debut album and quickly became one of North America's most popular rock bands. They’ve garnered four multi-platinum albums, numerous international Gold albums and their tours continue to sell out arenas and stadiums nationwide.
The Payola$ were one of the earliest new wave acts to come out of Canada with numerous hits including “Eyes of a Stranger” which still generates more airplay than most contemporary artists today. Other performers include Five Alarm Funk, Wil, Elise Estrada, Rymes with Orange, Tracey Chamberlain and many more.
Special attractions include Shooting Star Amusement Rides featuring the Gravitron and the Zipper, plus a full range of family-oriented talent for the younger crowd, interactive games and bouncy castles for the kids.
The City of Surrey will also be celebrating BC’s 150th birthday as well as paying a special tribute to Quebec’s 400th anniversary.
There will be several exciting contests, including a chance to win “The Best Seat in the House”, featuring a side stage view of the headliners and a special “meet ‘n greet” session after the show.
“Surrey’s Canada Day festivities continue to get bigger and better every year,” said Mayor Dianne Watts. “This year promises to be our best yet, so bring the whole family and come celebrate the birthday of our great country with thousands of your friends and neighbours.”
An event of this magnitude would not be made possible with out the generous support of sponsors such as Coast Capital Savings, Fruiticana, Chevron, Rogers, Fraser Downs Racetrack, and many more.
