2010 LINEUP OF PERFORMERS

Surrey Canada Day releases another stellar line up of the best Canadian performers!

CHEVRON MAIN STAGE

Honeymoon Suite
9:00pm - 10:15pm

Honeymoon Suite originally formed in 1982 by singer Johnnie Dee with the songwriters Derry Grehan (guitar) and Ray Coburn (keyboards), as well as Gary Lalonde (bass guitar) and Dave Betts (drums). Coburn was replaced by Rob Preuss in 1986. Honeymoon Suite's spirited, commercial style rock music was supported by the then-new promotional medium of music videos and brought the band success quickly.

Its first LP, Honeymoon Suite, issued in 1984, included 'New Girl Now,' an international hit which led to several tours in the USA (as an opening act for Jethro Tull, Journey, Heart, etc) and Canada. Honeymoon Suite received a Juno Award as group of the year in 1986.

In June 2007, the band officially announced the return of a reunited classic line-up. The band toured extensively throughout Canada in 2007 and 2008 and then entered the studio to record a new album. The high point of the reunion was the new CD Clifton Hill and named after the famous landmark in the centre of the tourist activity in Niagara Falls. The new album is described by guitarist Derry Grehan as "somewhat of a return musically to the sound that we had in the 80's".

Singing of O' Canada with Mark Donnelly
8:50pm

Join Mark Donnelly, best known for singing the anthem at the Vancouver Canucks hockey game, for the singing of O' Canada. You know how it goes: he sings, we sing, he sings, we cheer! It'll make the hair on your arms stand up!

ODDS
7:45pm - 8:30pm

When you spend over twenty years playing in a band like Canadian power-pop legends Odds, you pick up a few stories along the way. After four albums and hits like "It Falls Apart", "Eat My Brain", "Make You Mad" and "Someone Who's Cool”, they returned in 2008 with the LP Cheerleader. The group then threw itself into a strange and exotic endeavour -- storytime theatre. They weave ideas and war stories between performing the songs with running visuals and effects. Look for clips on the Odds' website (www.oddsmusic.com) and for them to take it on the road in 2010.

Surrey Celebration Dance Team
7:20pm - 7:30pm
The SCDT was created as a joint partnership between the City of Surrey and the Arts Council of Surrey. These 20 young dancers ages 16-24 are Surrey’s up and coming talent and performed at the Surrey Torch Relay and Surrey 2010 Celebration Site. Having trained at some of the best studios in the Lower Mainland, they are looking forward to this professional opportunity and to represent our city through dance.

Stereos
6:30pm - 7:10pm
Behind almost every overnight success story is an untold tale of toil. So yes, the chart-storming, inked-up lads of Stereos seem to have come out of nowhere (they call it Edmonton) with their seasonal smash “Summer Girl.” But the five band members spent a good half-decade hunkered down -- writing songs in basements, doing time in other bands and working soul-crushing McJobs before a twist of fate (you call it MuchMusic) turned made them “instant” pop stars.

Dragonette
5:30pm - 6:10pm

God created the earth. Boy (Dan Kurtz) meets Girl (Martina Sorbara) . Boy marries Girl. Boy and Girl make a demo in their basement called “I Get Around.” Boy and Girl put together band (Enter Will Stapleton and Joel Stouffer). Radio plays “I Get Around” incessantly. “Galore” gets released. Someone unrelated to the band calls it “probably the best record of 2007. “Another calls it “pop music the way that pop music should be: overblown, daring, and incredibly charismatic.” The band releases the 2nd album’s title track (“Fixin To Thrill”) to great fanfare from people who spend a lot of time in front of computer screens. Band finds a kindred spirit (Chris Huggett) to step into the guitarist chair. Band finishes 2nd album and books tour dates across the globe. Other nice people ask to help spread the word further. Band hopes for a few more chapters and a happy ending.
