CARLY RAE JEPSEN
ON THE CHEVRON MAIN STAGE @ 5:30PM
Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian singer/songwriter from Mission, B.C. In the summer of 2007 she was a contestant on the fifth season of Canadian Idol, placing third. She was also a part of the Canadian Idol Top 3 concert tour. After completing the tour, Jepsen retreated to B.C. to focus on writing and recording her debut Album “Tug of War”. The unfussy debut plays like a middle passage through the stealth pop gloss of Nelly Furtado and the more adult concerns of Feist, whom Carly adores. Her childhood diet of James Taylor, Ella Fitzgerald, and Van Morrison serves her well on Tug Of War, from the smartly built, double-edged title track, to the sense of drama that invigorates the record’s centerpiece, “Sweet Talker”. Once you see her performance you will be quick to agree that her songs are a million miles away from the bubblegum factory.

JEREMY FISHER
ON THE CHEVRON MAIN STAGE @ 4:45PM
As a curly-haired singer with an acoustic guitar, Fisher gets the requisite comparisons to Bob Dylan, while his boyish tenor, dexterous fingerpicking and electrifying hooks eerily recall Paul Simon. “It was a little weird to hear that sort of stuff at first,” he says, “but I’m really flattered that people see those resemblances, and I’m sure that some of the records Simon and Dylan listened to are in my collection—Delta blues singers like Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt and Big Bill Broonzy, Alan Lomax’s field recordings, Depression-era stuff. For some reason, I identified with all that old stuff when I was going through this renaissance in my songwriting—it’s what inspired me to continue making music".

KUBA OMS
ON THE CHEVRON MAIN STAGE @ 4:00PM The time is now for Kuba Oms, the Canadian singer who mines ‘70s-era soul, funk and rock n’ roll on his solo debut, How Much Time. As the long-time musical director of the live house jam band Velvet, he has taken a contemporary approach to his own project that could be likened to a cross between Jamiroquai, Paolo Nutini, David Gray and Ben Harper. Kuba started at age 15 by singing covers at school and around bonfires. An accomplished tennis player, he had the option of a scholarship to a U.S. college, but opted for music instead. And so his pursuit began. His first original band, Out Of Nowhere, built quite a following in the west coast with its influence of rock from the ‘60s and ‘70s, such as Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. “In a lot of ways, it was the kind of music I’m playing now, only heavier,” Kuba reflects. Official Band Website
